I am in an invigorating cosmic dream world, my body swaying and emerging into a full body dance. This is Amo Amo. The LA-based quintet features Love Femme’s soothing voice on vocals, Omar Velasco on vocals and guitar, Justin Flint on drums, Alex Siegel on keys, and Shane Mckillop on bass. They master swirling psychedelic dream pop while putting their own twist of funky grooves in the mix. Harmonizing with one another, Femme and Velasco’s voices perfectly complement the band’s reggae-esque twangs and danceable beats.
Amo Amo released their debut album in 2019, produced by My Morning Jacket’s Jim James -- who took the entire band out to California’s wine country to get away from their phones and focus on recording Amo Amo. In a world where we’re glued to technology and reliant on algorithms to lead us to the next song, Amo Amo’s music feels refreshing. It encourages us to reconnect with nature and reinvigorate ourselves through its energy.
Amo Amo has shared stages and toured with bands like My Morning Jacket, Karen O, and Poolside, who they collaborated with last year on a track called “Around The Sun” -- a sundrenched dream pop anthem. The band has been hard at work ever since, releasing a stunning EP and several singles, with a second album on the way this year.
For Amo Amo’s Greylist, Femme picked out 10 feel-good disco tracks that will surely make you want to dance.
