Courtney Clarke has one goal when she’s behind the decks: to make people lose their shit on the dance floor. Better known as CC:DISCO!, the Australian DJ has been making people feel their feelings on dance floors all over the world. Over the years there have been tears, hugs, and love among dancers, all responding to the overwhelming joy CC brings to every set. There is no pretension, only pure elation.
CC has been spreading music to the masses since she was 15 years old, when she started doing radio in her country town of Cobram. Later settling in Melbourne, she got a residency on PBS FM and hosted the show ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ for six years, playing disco, house, and boogie every Friday night. These days CC has a bi-monthly show on Rinse FM, and she has had guest slots on internationally renowned stations like NTS, Red Light Radio, and The Lot Radio.
Her years of doing radio confirmed her status as a dedicated digger and selector, and the world has taken notice. Now splitting between Australia and Europe, CC has become a festival staple, playing on the stages of Glastonbury, Oasis, Love International, and Kala.
But no matter where she goes, she never loses sight of home. To share Aussie talent with the world, CC curated the First Light compilation for Soothsayer in 2018. Now, it’s time for a new installment, with First Light Volume II due out on May 8. For the second round CC has expanded the talent pool to include upcoming and unsung electronic musicians from across the world. The 24-track vinyl takes listeners on an eclectic journey featuring everything from jazz, Balearic, disco, house, trance, and techno. “With Vol II I really wanted to capture my overall sound and bring artists together from around the world,” Clarke said on Bandcamp. “It’s definitely a body of work you should listen to from start to finish, it’s a natural progression”.
Ahead of the release, we asked CC:DISCO! to share some of her favorite tracks in a Greylist to help get you into the groove for the weekend.
