Still quite early on in her career, Gabriella Di Capua is experienced beyond her years, having already trained under numerous renowned Italian Jazz artists like Ada Montellanico, Kurt Elling, Jay Clayton, Maria Pia De Vito, Enrico Pieranunzi, and Tom Harrell. The 26-year-old singer/songwriter hails from Naples, Italy and currently resides in Milan as a student at the Music Conservatory Giuseppe Verdi, where she trains under famous Italian Jazz artist Danila Satragno. She’s also won two prestigious scholarships – one from the “I Senzatempo” association in 2018 and another promoted by Ornella Vanoni, a legend in Italian pop music.
Her first full length album In the night was released in December 2020. The lush track “Conversations with Ourselves” stands out, and makes good on her own description of her music as a combination of “trip-hop, nu jazz, and electronic.” The track opens with soft hums and then a full band chimes in, contributing jazzy textures that complement the depth and warmth of Di Capua’s vocals. Her voice feels like a familiar story as she sings, “You can lie to people, not to yourself.”
Gabriella’s Greylist features four songs, including “Conversations with Ourselves,” from In the night and “Why Don’t You Lay With Me,” a song born out of her time in Italy’s first lockdown.
